How readings work

1. Your chart is calculated, not written

Planetary positions, signs, houses, and the angles between bodies are computed from your birth date, birth place, and birth time using published astronomical algorithms. This step is deterministic: the same inputs and the same pinned software versions always produce the same chart. Nothing in this step is generated text, and no written interpretation is allowed to change a calculated number.

2. The written parts are produced automatically

The readings, chart explanations, compatibility reports, and answers in Ask about your chart are written by an automated interpretation system, not by a person, and not by an astrologer preparing your reading individually. No one is typing on the other end. The system is given only the calculated chart facts, your chosen focus, your language, and — for Ask — the conversation you are in. It is not given your email, your payment details, or your exact birth address when calculated facts are enough.

Every claim about your chart has to point at a specific calculated fact. If the facts do not support a statement, it is dropped rather than softened into something vague. That is why each reading can show you the placements it drew on.

Generated text is checked against the chart facts and against our content rules before it is published. Text that fails is regenerated once and, failing that, replaced with clearly-labelled general content or an error you can retry — never with something dressed up as your personal reading.

3. The launch method

These are the specific choices behind every chart on Aspect. They are versioned: if we change them, charts calculated afterwards record the new version, and readings already published keep the chart they were written from.

Western tropical

Positions are measured from the vernal equinox, the convention used in Western astrology.

Frame

Geocentric, apparent positions

Positions as seen from the centre of the Earth, referred to the true equinox and ecliptic of the date.

House system

Whole sign

Each house is one whole sign, starting from the sign of the Ascendant. Houses are calculated only when the birth time is exact.

Bodies

Ten bodies: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. The Ascendant and Midheaven are added when the birth time supports them.

Aspect orbs

An aspect counts when the two bodies are within this many degrees of the exact angle. These are the launch values, stored as versioned configuration.

Pinned versions

Each chart records the engine, ephemeris, time zone database, and configuration versions it was calculated with.

4. Where the method stops

The uncertainty rules are part of the method, not a disclaimer bolted on afterwards.

• An exact birth time enables houses and the Ascendant. An approximate time suppresses both. An unknown time means the whole birth day is evaluated, and anything that changed sign during it is reported as uncertain instead of being resolved.
• We never invent a birth time, an Ascendant, a house placement, or a precise Moon sign that the inputs cannot support.
• When historical time zone records for a birth place and date are not reliable, the chart falls back to a date-only interpretation.
• Charts are validated for birth dates between 1900 and 2099.
• Readings use possibility and reflection. They do not predict events, diagnose anything, or tell you what to do about your health, money, or legal situation.

5. What this is and is not

Astrology is presented here as a framework for reflection. It is not a scientifically verified method of predicting events, and nothing on Aspect should be treated as professional advice. If a reading ever reads like a prediction or a warning, that is a bug — please report it.

Every reading and every answer has a report control. Reports go to a human review queue.
